Thoughts on Joining the Rat Race (but not getting paid)

As of Monday I, along with two of my classmates, am officially a Legal Administrative Assistant Practicum Student at the Law Firm of Fasken Martineau. The building that they're in is AWESOME!! they have 6 floors, and you have to have a pass key to work the elevator for all but one floor. I feel so important!!

The first two days have flown by. We're being trained in all the programs that Fasken uses, including a version of Word 2000 that they have made their own. They've added toolbars, taken away toolbars, added many macros to make life easier. My friends mom works here, and she always thought her mom was completely hopeless at using Word. Now she knows why!!

Today we get to meet our mentors who will be teaching us the legal stuff, and giving us things to do. Fun times ahead!!!

Wanna buy some Girl Guide Cookies?

While I was driving Josh to work yesterday morning, in the pouring rain, I thought to myself, "I have to sell Girl Guide Cookies in this?" There's nothing like a good rain storm to down your spirits about selling cookies. But, when I made it to our designated spot, the sun was out. It was a tad windy, but at least it wasn't raining.

There are some really cool people out there. Twice, we had people who gave us money for cookies, but didn't take them. The first guy said, "I'll buy a box, as long as you give it to the next person who walks by." The other guy just said keep the cookies. Yes, there are a lot of people who didn't want to buy a box of cookies. But it was interesting to see how many people turned down a FREE box.

But the highlight of the afternoon (or the lowlight, depending on how you look at it) was a woman who didn't want to buy a box of cookies because "they contained taxic chemicals." I had to really choke back a laugh when my Girl Guide said "You can check the ingredients on the box if you want." Priceless.

The good news is that we sold pretty much all our 25 cases of cookies in an hour and a half. And all I could keep thinking was, at least it wasn't raining.

And my life just keeps getting better. Yesterday morning, Josh turned on the TV. It turned on like normal, but then, the picture and the little red light came on and the TV decided to make a high pitched whining sound. Joy. Unplugged it and tried again, only the sound started as soon as the TV was plugged in. Sigh. TV people coming to pick it up this morning. I just want to watch the news!!!! Posted by Hello
